LEGEND OF THE AGES

I’ve always been fascinated by how an image can hold more than just a moment – how it can become suspended time, a witness, and a question all at once. LEGEND OF THE AGES, created in 2022, was born as an inner echo of a work that deeply moved me – Victor Hugo and his monumental poetic cycle La Légende des siècles.

Hugo did not write history; he wrote about humanity across the ages – about what endures within us while the world around us changes. About suffering, hope, the longing for freedom, and the silence that shapes us more than words ever could.

This is the essence I sought to translate into a visual form.
The figure in the image is no one in particular – neither woman nor man. An archetype. Both body and spirit, stripped of individuality yet filled with humanity. Immersed entirely in a single color – red, which may be blood, passion, silence, fire, or the essence of all things. The closed eyes are not an escape, but a focus – an inward gaze into the space where eternity begins.

I titled this work LEGEND OF THE AGES as a tribute to Hugo, but also as an attempt to give shape to something beyond words – the human being as the keeper of memory through time, and the inner landscape that remains unchanged, no matter the era.

Printed on canvas in a 100 × 100 cm format, framed, this piece has been part of several exhibition projects. For me, it is one of those works that never reveals itself entirely at first glance. Each return feels different – like coming back to a classic text that never loses its power.
